The last few weeks, we have been reading stories and discussing our personal connections to the story. For example, we read Llama Llama and the Bully Goat and discussed a time we had felt like the Llama either with a bully or when a teacher helped them solve an issue on the playground with a friend. They then wrote their personal connection on a post it and we discussed how a story can make us think about our lives. We also discussed how we don't just make a connection with a story but also with objects or food. For example we discussed how some foods make us think different things such as a hamburger or watermelon reminds us of summertime and BBQ's. This week ask your child about a connection they have to an object, food or even a story that you may be reading.
This week in Wonders our spelling words focus on words with long i: i, y, igh, ie. We are continuing to focus on retelling and reading fluency at reading groups. During our whole group, reading we are focusing on visualizing for our reading strategy.
We are starting a new chapter on representing data this week. We will continue to reinforce telling time to the hour and half hour. I am thrilled with how well the class is doing with telling time on an analog clock.
Have a great week!
