Family Fun Night was a huge success and I saw many of you there! Thank you to the PTA for another amazing night of family fun.
Pumpkin Extravaganza-
This Wednesday is our Pumpkin Extravaganza! It is our day to celebrate what we have learned. I have not shared with the kids what we are doing so it will be a surprise but we will be using the pumpkins they brought in to do many hands on experiments from sinking and floating, weighing and measuring. They will be rotating to different stations to explore. When we are finished, we will be doing an activity and enjoying some yummy treats. Mrs. Jill, our homeroom mom sent out an email on FreshSchools with more info and ways you can help. If you would like to join us Wednesday, our Extravaganza will begin at 11:45 right after lunch. We are not wearing costumes but if your child can wear black and orange, please have them wear it.
Wonders/GoMath-
This week in Wonders we are making and confirming predictions about the text we read at reading group. Our focus for spelling words this week is on short e. The kids are so exciting about the spelling test each week which means to me they are excited about learning!
In GoMath, we are continuing to learn addition strategies with focus on doubles +1 and doubles -1. We are also learning how to find a friendly 10 in an equation ( 9+4=? so we would take 1 from the 4 and add it to the 9 to make a 10 so 10+3=13 which also means 9+4=13). By this time of the year, first graders should be more fluent in facts to 10. If you notice your child is still struggling, please keep working on facts at home using flashcards, Xtramath (sent out in Tuesday Folders and at Open House in September- also, I will give another at conferences) and working on the math fact sheet at home. Many students are so excited to return the math fact sheet and say they are finishing more quickly every week!
Important Dates:
October 31st- Pumpkin Extravaganza 11:45 to 1:15.
November 7-9th- Noon Dismissal for Parent Teacher Conferences
November 12th-4th and 5th Grade Veterans Day Program
November 21st-25th Thanksgiving Break
December 13th- Christmas Program at 8:45 and 1:15
December 24th- January 1st- Holiday Break
