100's Day-
The 100th day of school is approaching on January 29th. I am asking each student to bring in a ziplock or brown lunch bag full of 100 small items (Cheerios, cars, legos, erasers, etc.) before the 29th of January. Please don't send in any items that will spoil or are fragile. We will be sorting the items into groups, classifying them in a variety of ways and counting them in different ways.
Wonders/GoMath-
This week in spelling, Wonders focuses on long vowel i spelled i_e. We are discussing magical letter "e" and when it is at the end of most words, it makes the vowel say it's name. We will be sorting words to determine if it is a long or short vowel word. During our reading group, we will be discussing the plot of stories and sequencing the events. In writing, we are discussing present tense and past tense verbs, plural words and word choice.
In GoMath, we are working on sequencing numbers, counting by tens and using the hundreds number chart. By now in first grade each child should be fluent in addition (1-10) and becoming fluent to 20. A great way to support your child at home is to log into XtraMath and/or practice flashcards. If you notice they are fluent in addition, practice subtraction flash cards. Every student can use the practice in both addition and subtraction.
Have a great week!
